India and Iran Partnership
India and Iran share a strong relationship rooted in history and culture. Their ties are supported by high-level visits and cooperation in trade, connectivity, and cultural exchanges. The Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre (SVCC), set up in 2013, has helped strengthen these cultural connections. Tourism also plays a big role in bringing the two nations closer.
A major milestone was Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Iran in 2016, where both countries signed the Trilateral Agreement on Trade, Transport, and Transit with Afghanistan. Iranian President Hassan Rouhani’s visit to India in 2018 further strengthened ties.

Trade is also a major part of their partnership, with India being one of Iran’s top five trade partners. India exports rice, medicines, and electrical machinery to Iran, while Iran sends dry fruits, chemicals, and glassware to India.
