INS Sudarshini 2026 Mission: INS Sudarshini has finished its port visit in New York as part of Lokayan 2026. The Indian Navy’s sail training ship reached New York on July 4, 2026, and represented India at the United States International Naval Review 250 and the Sail4th 250 celebrations.
The ship also joined the Parade of Sail on the Hudson River, where it passed through the city while flying the Indian Tricolour. The visit was part of a 10-month transoceanic journey meant to build goodwill and stronger maritime links with partner navies. After earlier participation in the SAIL 250 events at Norfolk and Baltimore, the ship was berthed at Brooklyn for the New York celebrations.

The New York stop was not just a ceremonial trip. It was also a sign of India’s long sea-going history and its growing naval connection with the United States. The official release said the ship stood as a symbol of India’s maritime legacy and also reflected friendship, respect and a wider maritime partnership between the two countries.
While sailing in New York waters, INS Sudarshini showed the Indian Navy’s wish to keep old seafaring traditions alive while also reaching out to other navies across the world.
Public visits
During its stay in Brooklyn, INS Sudarshini opened its decks to the public and welcomed more than 1,000 visitors. These visitors included members of the Indian diaspora, local residents and people who love ships and the sea. They got a close look at the vessel and also learned about the Indian Navy’s sail training traditions and India’s maritime heritage.

Diplomats
The ship also hosted important guests such as Consul General of India in New York Shri Binaya Srikanta Pradhan and India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Shri Parvathaneni Harish. They met the crew and praised the ship’s role in building maritime ties and people-to-people links.
A state dinner on board brought together diplomats, military officials and other guests and added another layer to the growing India-US Comprehensive Global Strategic Partnership. After finishing all its New York events, the ship sailed on to Boston, where it will take part in Sail Boston 2026.
