BEL Signs ₹64.31 Crore Weapon Sight Contract: Indian defence manufacturer RRP Defense has bagged a ₹64.31 crore manufacturing order from Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), to make 16,035 MEPRO X6 Day Sights right here in India. This also counts as another important move in the country’s push toward stronger local defence production under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat initiative.

Under the agreement, RRP Defense will manufacture and supply the MEPRO X6, a compact 6x magnification telescopic day sight originally developed by Israeli defence optics company Meprolight. The order further expands the long-standing collaboration between RRP Defense, BEL and Meprolight while increasing India’s domestic capability in advanced electro-optical defence systems.
The company said the project aims to achieve 100% indigenous manufacturing of the weapon sight through a technology transfer arrangement with Meprolight. The agreement provides RRP Defense with the manufacturing technology, production expertise and exclusive rights to produce the MEPRO X6 for the Indian market.
What is the MEPRO X6 Day Sight?
The optical sight MEPRO X6 provides a higher sighting in order to increase the effectiveness in day light conditions. The weapon mounted sight system offers magnification of 6X for the effective search and engagement of enemy targets at longer ranges with superior accuracy. The optic is designed for deployment on assault and light machine rifles for the supported actions of infantry soldiers at ground combat areas.
Present day optical combat sights for improved fighting information to the infantry, accurate searching and identifying, firing in battle as well as combat in daylight provide modern capabilities.
The company is required to execute the order in three distinct lots. The first lot comprises 9,275 units, to be supplied within seven months from the date of the purchase order release. The second lot of 4,500 units is scheduled for delivery by June 27, 2027, followed by the final lot of 2,260 units by December 27, 2027. Deliveries are permitted on a staggered basis, subject to a minimum lot size of 1,000 units per shipment.

Technology transfer strengthens India’s defence ecosystem
According to RRP Defense, the technology transfer agreement with Meprolight represents more than a manufacturing arrangement. It enables the company to build advanced electro-optical systems domestically while reducing dependence on imported defence equipment.
Commenting on the order, Rajendra Chodankar, Founder and Chairman of the RRP Group of Companies, said the technology transfer partnership with Meprolight significantly strengthens India’s self-reliance in advanced weapon sighting systems.
The latest contract follows a series of collaborations between BEL and RRP Group aimed at expanding India’s indigenous defence manufacturing capabilities. Earlier this year, the companies entered into a strategic partnership covering semiconductors, electro-optics and unmanned systems.
