INS Trikand: Indian Navy warship INS Trikand stopped a piracy attempt on a merchant ship called MV Golden Arsenal on Wednesday night in the Gulf of Aden. The ship had an Indian crew member on board and was carrying critical cargo meant for India. According to ANI, which cited sources, the danger was handled quickly and the crew stayed safe.
The ship’s crew saw the threat early and acted fast. They locked themselves inside a safe room on the vessel and used the ship’s communication channel to alert the authorities. This quick action helped keep the situation under control while help was on the way.

MARCOS Board the Ship
As soon as INS Trikand moved close to the spot, the pirates ran away. After that, Indian Navy Marine Commandos, also known as MARCOS, boarded the ship and checked it carefully. They later sanitised the vessel and made sure it was safe for the people on board. Reports said the vessel had 21 crew members in total, including one Indian sailor.
This was not the first time INS Trikand had been used for such a job. On June 19, the same warship answered a distress call from MV Fareeda 5 after a likely piracy attempt in the Western Indian Ocean. The Navy said its fast move helped protect the merchant ship and its crew.

In its post on X about the MV Fareeda 5 case, the Indian Navy said, “Responding swiftly to a distress call from MV Fareeda 5 on a likely piracy attempt in the Western Indian Ocean on 17 June 26, mission deployed INS Trikand a frontline frigate of the Indian Navy undertook prompt action to investigate and deter the threat. Timely intervention assured safety of the merchant vessel.

The latest operation once again showed how the Indian Navy moves quickly when merchant ships face danger at sea. It also showed how early warning, calm crew action, and a fast naval response can stop a piracy attack before it becomes worse.
