A Palau-flagged vessel with a predominantly Indian crew faced a severe emergency while en route from Kandla, India to Shinas, Oman. A fire broke out in its engine room, leading to a complete power failure onboard.
The Indian Navy quickly responded by deploying the stealth frigate INS Tabar, already stationed in the Gulf of Oman, to the vessel’s aid. Upon receiving the distress call from MT Yi Cheng 6, the Navy took swift action.
With 13 naval personnel and five members of the vessel’s crew engaged in firefighting efforts, the intensity of the fire was substantially reduced. The intervention was conducted using equipment and manpower transferred by a ship’s boat and helicopter from INS Tabar.
