Surya Kiran Team: The sky above Patna turned into a canvas of pride and joy on Wednesday as nine aircraft of the Surya Kiran Aerobatics Team (SKAT) of the Indian Air Force performed a stunning air show.
The occasion was Shaurya Diwas, held to honor the bravery of Babu Veer Kunwar Singh, the 1857 freedom hero who fought the British at the age of 80. As the jets soared above JP Ganga Path, they left behind breathtaking trails of saffron, white, and green, drawing loud cheers from a thrilled audience.
The crowd, which included people of all ages and backgrounds, watched with amazement as the fighter jets flew in perfect formation. One of the most touching moments came when the aircraft made a large “heart and cupid” in the sky. This formation was a special tribute to Veer Kunwar Singh and a message of love to the people of Patna. The air show created an emotional and proud moment for many who gathered near the riverfront and even watched from their rooftops nearby.

Though the Akash Ganga skydiving team was expected to perform, they couldn’t take part due to some technical issues. BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy confirmed the change, but the crowd was still filled with excitement as the Surya Kiran team continued with their brilliant display. Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and several state ministers were also present to witness the live show.
The fighter jets wowed the crowd with smooth and sharp turns, sudden dives, and quick climbs. One of the most loved moves was when they suddenly flew away in different directions and then quickly came back together in a straight line. The jets also made a perfect ‘A’ shape mid-air, which showed their high level of training and discipline. The sight of the tricolour trails in the sky made the crowd cheer loudly and feel proud of the Indian Air Force.
Kanwal Sandhu, who was part of the event, explained the air show step by step using easy language so that everyone could understand. BJP MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy later joined her during the live commentary.

According to TOI, Wing Commander Arjun Patel, who is part of the SKAT, said the aerobatics team, unique in the world and only one of its kind in Asia, was known as the “ambassador of IAF”. “The air shows were organised in various cities across the country in order to display the might of the IAF and also encourage and motivate youngsters to join the armed forces,” he said, expressing happiness on witnessing the huge over-joyed Patna crowd. “We were equally excited to perform in front of such an enthusiastic and appreciative gathering.”
