IAF Allocation: The Indian Air Force has been told to properly use all the money given to it for upgrades and new equipment. A group from Parliament that looks after defence matters shared this advice in its latest report.
The report was presented in Parliament last week. It said that the Air Force is getting more money this time. In fact, there is a rise of 37.07% in the capital budget for the year 2026-27 when compared to 2025-26. This increase is meant to help the force become stronger and more modern.
The committee clearly said the money should not go to waste. “Keeping in view the modernisation of the armed forces, especially during the current geopolitical scenario, the committee urges the Air Force to gainfully utilise the allocated funds for modernisation and technological upgradation in armament and in the procurement of other vital platforms,” the report said.

Where the Money will be Used?
The funds are planned for many important projects. These include new fighter aircraft, support systems, and unmanned aircraft. One part of the report explained this in detail. “The allotted funds are planned to be utilised against some of the major new schemes like MRFA (Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft, which refers to the Rafale procurement), combat enablers (AEW&C, LCA Mk-1A), MTA, and medium-altitude long-endurance RPA (remotely piloted aircraft), in addition to the ongoing committed liabilities,” the report said.
These projects are very important because the Air Force is currently facing a shortage of fighter jet squadrons. New aircraft and systems will help fill this gap and improve overall strength.
There is also a plan to buy 60 medium transport aircraft. This deal is still waiting for final approval. Big companies like Lockheed Martin, Airbus, and Embraer are competing for this project. Once approved, it will add more power to the Air Force’s transport and logistics ability.

Stronger Future for IAF
Some steps have already been taken. Earlier, approval was given to buy Rafale fighter jets from France. This shows that the government is serious about upgrading the Air Force.
Adding more AEW&C systems and transport aircraft will also improve how the Air Force works during missions. These systems help in better tracking, planning, and quick response during operations.
