Sagar Defence Engineering IPO: Indian defence technology company Sagar Defence Engineering Limited (SDE) has raised ₹300 crore (around $33 million) from domestic institutional investors ahead of its planned stock market listing. The latest funding round has valued the company at ₹20,000 crore (around $2.2 billion), before adding the new investment.
The company has not revealed the names of the investors who took part in the funding round. The money will help SDE increase its research work and expand the production of unmanned and autonomous defence systems.
The fundraising comes as the company moves closer to its proposed Initial Public Offering (IPO). SDE has also received the required observations from the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) on its draft IPO papers.
From a Small Workspace to a ₹20,000 Crore Defence Company
Sagar Defence Engineering was started in 2015 by Capt Nikunj Parashar and his co-founders. The company began its journey from a small workspace measuring just 150 square feet. It had limited resources during its early days but wanted to develop new technology for India’s defence and maritime sectors.
Parashar had experience in the maritime industry. He believed that unmanned and autonomous machines could make work at sea safer and easier. These systems could also help reduce the need for people to enter dangerous areas during defence and other maritime operations.

Over the years, SDE has expanded its work and become a company that handles different stages of technology development. This includes research, designing, engineering and manufacturing.
Its work covers unmanned and autonomous systems for maritime, underwater, aerial and land operations. The company is also expanding its manufacturing and research facilities in Pune, Maharashtra.
Another major project is being developed in Andhra Pradesh. SDE is working on an Autonomous Systems Shipyard and a Maritime Systems Research Centre. The facility at Juvvaladinne in Nellore district is expected to support the development and testing of advanced unmanned maritime platforms. The Andhra Pradesh government had allocated around 29.58 acres for the project.
