MTU IMO Tier-II: As part of the ‘Made in India’ joint initiative PSU Watch website, Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers Limited (GRSE) and Rolls-Royce signed a framework and individual licence agreement on Tuesday to collaborate in the licence production and localization of the MTU IMO Tier-II compliant series 4000 marine engines for governmental ships.

An official statement states that all initiatives involving the Indian Coast Guard, Indian Navy, and fast patrol boats stand to benefit greatly from this cooperative effort in the years to come. These programmes include interceptor boats, quick assault craft, and fast patrol vessels.

As per this arrangement, the engines would be produced at GRSE’s Ranchi Diesel Engine Plant.

The following topics should be included in the licence agreement’s scope and individual licence rights, taking the end user’s needs into account:

Manufacturing or obtaining licensee-built parts and/or components, engine testing and finishing (including painting), and assembly of licensee-built goods.

Production of licensee-built goods within the territory through the manufacture or acquisition of licensee-built parts and/or components.

Sales and post-purchase services for licensee-built goods in India for the intended use.

MTU Series 4000 engines, a solution brand of Rolls-Royce’s business unit Power Systems, are distinguished by their high power density and power-to-weight ratio, compact design, mechanical and thermal stability, and power output of 746-4300 KW. They also have cheap lifespan costs and are simple to use and maintain. This provides the appropriate propulsion for all navy vessels, ranging from frigates and big submarines to tiny patrol boats.

Rolls-Royce and Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers are extending their long-standing collaboration with this licence arrangement. Since the mid-1980s, GRSE has been engaged in the line manufacture, maintenance, repair and overhaul of MTU engines.
