Tamil Nadu’s startup Space Zone India achieved a milestone on Saturday by launching its first reusable hybrid rocket, Mission RHUMI-2024, from a mobile platform. The launch aimed to research global warming and climate change.
Space Zone India has undertaken various projects under Mission RHUMI for the last two years. The RHUMI rocket, measuring 3.5 meters, was launched at 7.25 am from Thiruvidanthai on the East Coast Road near Chennai. It is powered by a generic-fuel-based hybrid motor and an electrically triggered parachute deployer.
The rocket, considered a sounding rocket, reached an altitude of approximately 35 kilometers. Founder-CEO Anand Megalingam explained that heavy wind conditions resulted in launching the rocket at a 70-degree inclination instead of 89 degrees and highlighted its reusability.
