India’s First Defence Export: OCF Avadi Sends 4,500 Military Uniforms to Suriname

The Army Ordnance Clothing Factory (OCF) in Avadi, Tamil Nadu, successfully exported 4,500 military uniforms worth Rs 1.71 crore to Suriname, marking a significant boost to India’s defence sector.

Military Uniforms Export in India: India’s defence sector got a big boost as the Army Ordnance Clothing Factory (OCF) in Avadi, Tamil Nadu, sent its first-ever defence consignment to the Republic of Suriname on Tuesday.

A total of 4,500 army uniforms were shipped from Avadi Army Station, with General Manager BS Reddy flagging off the consignment. According to ETV Bharat, Reddy shared, “In the first phase, 4,500 military uniforms worth Rs 1.71 crore have been exported.” He further added, “This is the first time that military uniforms from India have been sent to a foreign country.”

The Ordnance Clothing Factory in Avadi operates under Troops Comfort Limited, which is a public sector company managed by the Ministry of Defence. It specializes in making high-quality protective clothing and Armour.

Founded in 1961, OCF Avadi has supplied crores of protective uniforms, tents, parachutes, bulletproof jackets, and helmets to the defence forces, paramilitary, and different state police units. Over time, its research and development efforts have helped create advanced armored products, including bullet-resistant jackets, suits, and vehicle protection.

Tamil Nadu Police has received bullet-resistant gear from OCF, while Puducherry Police has been supplied with bomb suits. The factory has also provided ballistic helmets and armoured vehicle protection to Uttarakhand Police and DRDO in Hyderabad.

At the event, Additional Managers Gugan, Raj Kishore, Senthil Kumar, and Public Relations Officer Jai Singh were also present.
