GRSE Awarded Navratna Status: Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers Limited, or GRSE, has been given Navratna status by the Government of India. The company said the Department of Public Enterprises, under the Ministry of Finance, approved this on June 19, 2026. GRSE called it a big moment in its journey and said the honour came because of its steady financial work, strong production record, and support to India’s defence strength. The Navratna scheme is meant to give selected public sector firms more freedom in areas like spending, projects, and management decisions.
GRSE’s chairman and managing director, Cmde PR Hari, IN (Retd), also gave a strong statement on the new status. He said, “The conferment of Navratna status is a defining moment in GRSE’s journey and a matter of immense pride for every member of the GRSE family. This recognition reflects the confidence reposed in us and acknowledges the dedication, commitment and professionalism of our employees, past and present. This elevation will further empower us to pursue strategic opportunities, enhance self-reliance in defence manufacturing, strengthen our global competitiveness and contribute meaningfully towards the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat and India’s emergence as a leading maritime power by 2047.”

Strong Money Growth and More Work
GRSE has also shown very strong business growth in the last few years. In FY22, revenue from operations was ₹1,754 crore. By FY26, it had gone up to ₹7,002 crore. Profit after tax moved up too. It rose from ₹190 crore in FY22 to ₹748 crore in FY26. In the company’s FY26 results, revenue from operations was shown at ₹7,00,215.78 lakh and PAT at ₹747.93 crore. The company also said its FY26 revenue grew by about 38% over FY25, while PAT rose by about 42%.
GRSE said this growth came from better execution and more demand for defence ships. In FY26, it delivered eight warships. Three of them were handed over on the same day, March 30, 2026. Those ships were Dunagiri, Sanshodhak, and Agray. The official release from the Ministry of Defence confirmed the delivery of Agray, the fourth of eight anti-submarine warfare shallow water craft built by GRSE, to the Indian Navy in Kolkata on March 30, 2026.

What is GRSE Building Next?
The company is also growing beyond only warships. GRSE said it is working on brownfield and greenfield expansion so it can raise its capacity. It is building 12 multi-purpose vessels for a German client. It is also looking at green ships and autonomous vessel technology. On top of that, it wants to keep building its defence and commercial shipbuilding business at the same time.
GRSE says it has already built over 800 marine platforms and delivered 118 warships to the Indian Navy, the Coast Guard, and friendly foreign nations. Of these, 80 were delivered to the Navy. The company also says it has a long history. It started in 1884 as a small workshop. Later, the Government of India took it over in 1960. Today, it is one of India’s key defence shipbuilders and also makes bridges, deck machinery, marine engine parts, and 30mm naval surface guns.
GRSE shares also stayed firm after the news. On June 19, 2026, the stock closed around ₹2,798.30 on the NSE, which is roughly the same as ₹2,799. The company said the new Navratna tag should help it move faster, take bigger decisions, and stay stronger in defence manufacturing.
