DRDO and RRU Partnership: India’s defence research body, the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), has taken an important step to strengthen national security. On Monday, DRDO signed an agreement with Rashtriya Raksha University to work together in defence and internal security areas. This partnership focuses on research, education, training and technology support.

The memorandum of understanding was signed in New Delhi at South Block. DRDO Director General Chandrika Kaushik and RRU Vice Chancellor Bimal N Patel signed the document. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh was present during the event. DRDO Chairman Samir V Kamat and other senior officials also attended the signing ceremony.
Focus on Research and Training
The Defence Ministry explained the purpose of this agreement in clear terms. PTI said, “Under the MoU, both organisations will collaborate on joint research projects, PhD and fellowship programmes and specialised training and capacity-building programmes for security forces.” This means students, researchers, and security staff will work together to learn and build new skills.
The partnership will also study new security problems that India may face in the future. It will look at gaps in current technology and help predict what tools and systems will be needed next. The agreement also includes support for managing the full life cycle of defence systems made by DRDO and used by Central Armed Police Forces and other agencies under the Ministry of Home Affairs.

Self-Reliance and National Security
The ministry said this move shows a shared vision between DRDO and RRU. It aims to combine technology, knowledge, and real-world experience to improve India’s readiness in defence and internal security. DRDO and RRU signed the MoU to “foster collaboration in areas of research, education, training and technology support for defence and internal security.”
The agreement also supports India’s long-term goals. The Defence Ministry said the MoU will help strengthen self-reliance in defence and security technology. This aligns with the national vision of ‘Aatmanirbhar Bharat’ and the whole-of-nation approach during ‘Amrit Kaal’.
Rashtriya Raksha University play an important role in this partnership. It is an institution of national importance under the Ministry of Home Affairs and a UGC-designated centre for defence studies.
