India has deployed the indigenous Vajra anti-drone system at Kartavya Path to boost Delhi’s air defence and protect key areas from rising threats posed by low-cost commercial drones.

The system is called Vajra Anti-Drone System whichis an Indian company from Chennai named Big Bang Boom Solutions, also known as BBBS, installed it, reported IDRW. The goal is to stop new kinds of air threats. These threats mostly come from cheap drones that anyone can buy easily in the market.

Officials said this move will make Delhi’s air defence stronger by adding more layers of protection. One official explained the meaning of this step by saying, “The installation at Kartavya Path reflects India’s growing reliance on home-grown counter-drone technologies to address asymmetric threats,” The system will help protect an important and sensitive area of the capital where many national events take place.

The Vajra system is also called Vajra Sentinel. Engineers designed it to work in fast-changing danger situations where drones can appear at any time. Officials said the system performs as well as top systems from India and other countries. They clearly said, “The system has demonstrated benchmarks that stand at par with international solutions,”

BBBS built the Vajra system fully in India. The company spent more than five years on research and development. Teams tested the system many times in real field conditions. The system also went through many checks before approval. BBBS confirmed that the system passed all quality rules. An official said, “The Vajra system has successfully achieved DGAQA clearance after rigorous trials.”

During user acceptance trials, the system showed strong performance. It passed these trials on the first try. This is not easy even for big defence companies. An official proudly said, “The Vajra Anti-Drone System cleared user acceptance trials on the first attempt, a milestone that even established defence manufacturers often struggle to achieve,”

In 2024 BBBS became even stronger in the defence market. The company received orders worth more than ₹200 crore from the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army. Officials said these deals made Vajra an important system for guarding military bases and key locations. The company shared its pride by saying “These orders underline the trust placed in the Vajra system by the armed forces,”

The Vajra system can find and stop common drones like DJI Mavic and Phantom models. It uses passive radio-frequency sensing to detect drones. This method keeps the system hidden and avoids false alarms. An official explained it clearly by saying, “Passive RF sensing allows the system to stay undetected while ensuring high accuracy.”

The system follows strict military standards. Both its sensor and jammer units meet MIL-STD-801G rules. This makes the system tough enough for long use in hard weather and battle conditions. Officials also said the system uses advanced sensor fusion, artificial intelligence, and computer vision.

Vajra can also act on its own without waiting for a human command. Officials explained this feature by saying, “Its neural network architecture enables the system to automatically select countermeasures such as targeted jamming without operator intervention.”

The system does not depend on one tall mast. Instead, it uses a distributed design. This removes weak points and makes it harder to destroy. An official explained, “The modular design allows rapid customisation and integration, including deployment on armoured vehicles used by the Indian Army.”

Vajra also uses line-replaceable units and hot-swap technology. This means soldiers can change damaged parts quickly without shutting the system down. Officials summed it up by saying, “This design ensures uninterrupted performance in combat conditions.”
