Reliance Rolls-Royce AMCA Engine Partnership:Reliance Industries and British aerospace company Rolls-Royce have announced a plan to work together on an engine for India’s AMCA fighter jet programme. The partnership aims to help India build the engine in the country and reduce its dependence on foreign suppliers. The announcement was made on Friday, August 14, 2026.
The two companies plan to work together on the design and development of the engine. They also want to build a complete system in India that can handle manufacturing, testing, production and support after the engine enters service. This could help India develop more skills and facilities in the field of military aircraft engines.

The partnership is especially important because an aircraft engine is one of the most difficult parts of a modern fighter jet to design and build. India has been working for years to develop stronger domestic capabilities in aerospace propulsion.
New Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex
As part of the plan, Reliance and Rolls-Royce will explore the creation of a dedicated Aerospace Gas Turbine Complex in India. The proposed facility would work as a centre for advanced power and propulsion technology.
The complex could bring several parts of the engine work under one system. This may include designing the engine, developing new technologies, producing engine parts, assembling engines, testing them and supporting them throughout their service life. The companies also said the facility could be used for wider opportunities in defence and civil aerospace in the future.
The idea is not only to make one engine. A larger aerospace gas turbine facility could help create an Indian industrial base that can work on different types of engines and propulsion systems. It could also give Indian engineers and manufacturers more experience with the difficult technologies needed for high-performance gas turbine engines.
Rolls-Royce already has a large presence in India’s aerospace and defence supply chain. The company has said it works with Indian companies and has more than 2,000 highly skilled engineers working in-house and through outsourced agreements. It also has partnerships involving companies such as Hindustan Aeronautics Limited and Force Motors and works with Indian suppliers including Tata and Bharat Forge.
What Reliance and Rolls-Royce Will Bring to the Project
The two companies are expected to bring different strengths to the proposed programme. Rolls-Royce has long experience in aircraft engine design and advanced propulsion systems. Reliance will bring its industrial scale, manufacturing capability, technology and ability to manage large projects in India.

Anant Ambani, Executive Director of Reliance Industries, said the project is connected to India’s need to become more independent in important technologies. He said:

Rolls-Royce CEO Tufan Erginbilgiç also welcomed the proposed partnership. Together, with our existing partnerships and capabilities in India, this marks a major milestone towards building a robust, self-reliant aerospace ecosystem in the country”
