PM Modi’s Qatar Visit: Following his arrival in Doha, the capital of Qatar, on Wednesday night, Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with his colleague Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. Together, they talked about measures to strengthen the relationship between Doha and New Delhi.

The meeting reportedly involved a discussion between the two presidents about how to increase bilateral cooperation in areas including commerce, investment, energy, finance, and technology.

The two presidents highlighted the need of maintaining peace and security in the area while also talking about recent regional changes in West Asia.

“Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani met Wednesday with Prime Minister of the Republic of India, Narendra Modi, who is visiting the country,” the Qatari Foreign Ministry stated in a statement.

“During the meeting, they discussed cooperation relations between the two friendly countries and ways to support and develop them, especially in the fields of energy, commerce and investment,” said the statement.

Additionally, Prime Minister Modi attended a luncheon that the prime minister of Qatar held in his honour.

Expanding bilateral cooperation in areas including commerce and investment, energy, and finance was discussed, according to a MEA spokesman Randir Jaiswal, who wrote on X.

Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi, Qatar’s State Minister for Foreign Affairs, met Prime Minister Modi at the airport as he landed on Wednesday night after concluding his visit to the United Arab Emirates.

The Indian diaspora greeted PM Modi warmly outside his hotel in Qatar. Challenging PM Modi with presents and the Indian tricolour, they sang “Modi Modi” and “Bharat Mata Ki Jai.” Those who had gathered outside PM Modi’s hotel in Doha to greet him exchanged handshakes. He even received gifts from some of the individuals, including books. As PM Modi spoke with them, many also snapped photographs of him.

Notably, Doha’s release on Monday of eight Indian Navy personnel who had been given death sentences in Qatar due to espionage accusations was a significant diplomatic win for India.

Of the eight veterans, seven have gone back to India. According to the MEA, the eighth personnel has also been freed, and plans are on for his return.

After New Delhi’s diplomatic intervention, the death penalty was previously modified to a longer jail sentence.
