India congratulated China on Prime Minister Modi’s election victory and pledges to normalize bilateral ties based on mutual respect, interest, and sensitivity, addressing border row in eastern Ladakh.

India China relationship: India thanked China congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his election victory and said it would keep working for the normalisation of bilateral ties based on “mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity”.

According to Business Standard, with the residual border row along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh, the remarks of External Affairs Ministry spokesman Randhir Jaiswal came as a view of the frigid relations between India and China.

Jaiswal was responding to a congratulatory note on X from Modi sent by the Chinese Foreign Ministry.

“Thank you @MFA_China for congratulating PM @narendramodi on his election victory. Will continue to pursue efforts towards normalisation of India-China ties based on mutual respect, mutual interest and mutual sensitivity,” Jaiswal said on X.

India has been relentlessly maintaining that the normalisation of general ties depends on peace and tranquility along the LAC.

Chinese foreign ministry spokesman said on June 5: “Congratulations to Prime Minister @narendramodi, BJP and the National Democratic Alliance on the election victory. We look forward to a healthy & stable China-India relationship.”

Four of the five P-5 leaders have praised Modi for securing a third term. Still, Chinese President Xi Jinping has not yet sent a congratulations note.

The P5 countries are Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States, China and France, the permanent members of the UN Security Council.

Since May 2020, the Indian and Chinese militaries have been locked in a standoff; while the two sides have disengaged from several areas of conflict, a complete resolution of the border row has not yet been attained.
