India’s Defence Exports: India has set a new record by selling defence equipment worth ₹23,622 crore ($2.76 billion) to other countries in the financial year 2024-25. This is 12.04% more than last year’s sales of ₹21,083 crore. The government and private companies both played a big role in this success.
India’s defence exports have surged to a record high of Rs 23,622 crore in the FY 2024-25. An impressive growth of Rs 2,539 crore or 12.04% has been registered in the just-concluded FY over the defence exports figures of FY 2023-24, which were Rs 21,083 crore.

The Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), which are government-owned companies, saw their exports grow by 42.85%. According to India Today, they sold defence products worth ₹8,389 crore, much higher than last year’s ₹5,874 crore.
At the same time, private companies remained the biggest players, selling ₹15,233 crore worth of defence items, slightly more than last year’s ₹15,209 crore.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated everyone involved in this success. He said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, India is moving closer to its goal of selling ₹50,000 crore worth of defence products by 2029.

Indian Defence Products Reach 80 Countries
India now sells defence equipment to around 80 countries. These include:
- Ammunition and arms
- Sub-systems and integrated systems
- Parts and components for major defence platforms
This shows that India is no longer just buying defence equipment from other countries but is also becoming a major supplier in the world.
The government has made it simpler for companies to get permission to sell defence products abroad. In 2024-25, 1,762 companies got approval to export, which is 16.92% more than last year. The number of companies selling defence goods also increased by 17.4%.
Some of the new rules that helped include:
- Simplification of industrial licensing procedures
- Removal of parts & components from the licensing regime
- Extension of validity for defence manufacturing licenses
₹50,000 Crore Defence Exports by 2029
With strong policies and growing demand for Indian defence products, the country is confident of reaching its ₹50,000 crore export target by 2029. Both government and private companies are working hard to make this happen.
