Agni-Prime Missile Test: India made a new big step in defence on September 24, 2025 where the country tested the Agni-Prime missile from a train for the first time ever. The missile went up from a rail-based mobile launcher, and this moment showed India’s growing power in missile technology. DRDO worked with the Strategic Forces Command to carry out this launch. The Agni-Prime can fly as far as 2,000 kilometres and strike its target with strong accuracy.

This was not just a normal test. The missile was fired from a launcher that was fitted on a moving rail platform, which means it can travel through the long Indian railway system just like any other train.
There are no fixed spots needed for it so it can move from one end of the country to another without problem. If needed, the missile can be launched quickly from wherever it is, even while moving. This gives India an edge, because it becomes very hard for enemies to predict where the missile is or stop it before it fires.
The Defence Minister praised DRDO SFC and the armed forces again, and said this system shows India’s strong defence and will increase the country’s deterrence against any threat. The missile system also comes with its own launch ability, advanced communication technology and very strong safety protections so it can work even in tough conditions where the enemy may attack.
Agni-Prime in Agni series
The Agni-Prime belongs to the famous Agni series of missiles that India has been building for years. This one uses solid fuel with two stages and can cover medium-range distances up to 2,000 kilometres. The missile is kept inside a canister which makes it safer to move, faster to use, and much more difficult to destroy before launch. Before this India had already tested the same missile successfully in August 2025 and now the rail test takes it to another level.
