Defense officials informed ANI that the proposal to acquire three new signal intelligence and communication jamming system aircraft, also known as surveillance planes, is nearing completion and is anticipated to receive approval the following week.

They stated that the Defence Research and Development Laboratory and the Indian Air Force are collaborating on the initiative using Airbus-319 class aircraft. The relevant agencies will issue a request for proposals to aircraft manufacturers for the procurement of the aircraft’s platform, according to the officials.

They stated that the aircraft requirement has existed for quite some time and that the project’s specifications have now been finalized. The Centre for Airborne Studies is undertaking the endeavor. It is engaged in various development projects, one of which is the AEW&C Netra Mark1A, the Airborne Early Warning and Control systems of the next generation of Netra aircraft.

The Indian Air Force intended to present the Defense Acquisition Council with a proposal to purchase six additional AEW&C aircraft based on the Embraer aircraft in September and November of last year, according to ANI. Furthermore, the Indian Air Force intends to produce an Airborne Early Warning and Control (AEW&C) Mark 1A aircraft and an Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (I-STAR) aircraft indigenous to India. These aircraft will be built upon the Embraer legacy jet plane platform, while the Airbus 321 jets will be modified to accommodate the AEWC Mark 2. Additionally, CABS is producing the Medium Range Maritime Reconnaissance system for the Indian Navy and Coast Guard.

Director General Rakesh Pal, the chief of the Indian Coast Guard, recently stated that the C-295-based maritime surveillance aircraft would provide the force with a formidable indigenous capability to monitor Indian territory.
