The Ministry of External Affairs said that India “welcomes the Summit meeting in Alaska between US President Donald Trump and President Vladimir Putin of Russia. Their leadership in the pursuit of peace is highly commendable.”

Trump and Putin share their views
After the Friday talks, President Trump told reporters that his meeting with Putin was very useful. He said, “We had a very productive meeting, and there were many points that we agreed on. A couple of big ones that we haven’t quite gotten there, but we made some headway. There’s no deal until there’s a deal” reported Business Standard. He explained that he will soon inform NATO leaders and also tell Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy about what happened in the talks.
Trump stressed that the main reason for the summit was to try and save lives in Ukraine. He told the press, “We’re going to stop 5,000, 6,000, 7,000 people a week from being killed, and President Putin wants to see that as much as I do.” He repeated that progress had been made but reminded everyone, “There’s no deal until we have a deal.” Trump also gave credit to both the US and Russian teams and even pointed out that he and Putin share a good personal relationship.
President Putin also gave his remarks and called the meeting “constructive.” He thanked Trump for holding the summit in Alaska, saying the location carried a special meaning. He noted that Russia and the US are only 4 km apart at the Bering Strait. Putin even remembered how Alaska acted as a bridge between the US and the Soviet Union in World War II and spoke about cultural links between the two places.

Putin admitted openly that relations between Washington and Moscow had dropped badly, saying, “At this new stage… bilateral relations have fallen to the lowest point since the Cold War. That’s not benefiting our countries and the world as a whole. Sooner or later, we have to amend the situation to move on from confrontation to dialogue.” At the end, he invited Trump to Moscow for the next round of talks. “Next time in Moscow,” Putin said. Trump replied with a little smile, “That’s an interesting one. I’ll get a little heat on that one, but I can see it possibly happening.”
What comes after the Alaska talks?
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he will meet Trump in Washington on Monday. He explained that he already spoke to Trump on Saturday after the Alaska summit and called it a “long, meaningful conversation.” The White House confirmed that Trump not only spoke with Zelenskyy but also had discussions with NATO leaders earlier that morning about the Alaska meeting.
