India and Greece defence: India and Greece have taken an important step to grow closer in defence matters by holding their first ever India-Greece Joint Services Staff Talks in New Delhi. This meeting showed that both countries now think in a similar way about safety and security. It also showed that they want to work more closely with each other’s armed forces in the coming years. Senior defence officers from India and Greece led the talks and spent time discussing how to build stronger military relations in a steady and long-term way.
The talks were jointly led by officials from India’s Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff and Greece’s Hellenic National Defence General Staff. Both sides spoke in detail about how they can increase cooperation between their armies, navies, and air forces.
Focus on military cooperation
After the talks, India’s Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff shared details on social media. In a post on X, it said the discussions focused on “further expanding bilateral military cooperation.” The post explained that both sides talked about exchange programmes, improving defence skills, and finding better ways for soldiers from both countries to work together. Officials also reviewed current defence activities to see what is working well and what can be improved in the future.
The Indian side said both nations clearly agreed on the need to strengthen defence ties even more. They looked at practical steps that can help armed forces train together and understand each other better. The post also said “This engagement will herald a new era in India-Greece defence relations, marked by enhanced mutual trust and a shared commitment to regional and global security.” These words showed how serious both countries are about building a strong partnership.

Building on Recent Defence Momentum
These staff talks did not happen in isolation. They followed other recent defence meetings between India and Greece. Just last month, the two countries held their first India-Greece Maritime Security Dialogue in Athens. During that meeting, both sides shared their views on sea security in areas like the Mediterranean, the Arctic, and the Indo-Pacific. They also spoke about how to work together to keep sea routes safe and open.
According to the ministry of external affairs, both nations agreed to move forward on the areas they discussed and decided to hold future meetings to continue this work.
