National School Band Competition: Before the 76th Republic Day celebrations, Defence Secretary R K Singh spoke about the National School Band Competition being held to inspire unity and patriotism among children. The event is happening at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, where 16 school bands, chosen from across the country, are competing in the grand finale.
The competition is a joint effort by the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Education. Accorsidng to Careers360, a total of 466 students from 16 teams reached the finale after a thorough selection process. Addressing the young participants, Singh highlighted the vibrant tradition of military bands in the armed forces, which play an important role in boosting morale and showcasing talent.

The competition aims to instill unity, pride, and patriotism in children. It encourages schoolchildren to actively participate in Republic Day celebrations. According to Singh, marching school bands not only create a beautiful visual experience but also inspire courage and a sense of belonging among children and adults. The event seeks to motivate children to become proud and responsible citizens.
The finalist teams have been invited to witness the Republic Day celebrations on January 26. Among the standout performances was a pipe band by girl students from Jharkhand and a brass band from Sikkim. Songs like “Sare Jahan Se Achha” and “Ae Watan Tere Liye” were played, captivating the audience.

The competition, running over two days, ends on January 25. This year’s Republic Day celebrations focus on 75 years since the Constitution’s enactment, with the theme “Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas.” Students from the finalist bands will also perform at Kartavya Path, alongside tableaux from different states and ministries.
