US-Finland Training: United States Marines and Sailors with Marine Rotational Force Europe will take part in Finland’s yearly maritime drill called Freezing Winds 25. The training will happen across the Baltic Sea region from November to December 2025. Marines from II Marine Expeditionary Force will travel from Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune for the event. They will join the Finnish Nylands Brigade so both sides can work together in amphibious missions in the Gulf of Finland.

US Units Training with NATO
Combat Logistics Battalion 6 will guide the U.S. part of the exercise. The Marines will practice contested logistics to help support NATO missions and deterrence. Troops from Sweden and Estonia will also join Finland and the United States during the training. Everyone will work side by side to improve teamwork in cold northern waters.
According to Defence Industry, Maj. Gen. Daniel Shipley, the U.S. Marine Corps Forces Europe Commander, said that the event shows how Finland has stepped forward since joining NATO. He said, “The U.S. Marine Corps is committed to enabling Finland’s defense capabilities and enhancing its role as a key contributor to regional security and NATO.”

He also said, “By collaborating with Finland, we are building a more comprehensive understanding of the maritime environment. This enhances our collective ability to maintain sea control and deter potential threats in the Baltic.”
Military Support
The Freezing Winds 25 exercise will include live-fire drills at the platoon level. Troops will carry out an amphibious assault, maritime strikes and aviation sorties. These events will help Finland’s Navy and U.S. forces learn how to work together smoothly. Marines using Stand-in-Forces concepts from Marine Corps Force Design will move forward with Finland’s Navy and other NATO teams.
