Ukraine and Russia summit: After reaching a consensus on nuclear safety, food security, and returning kidnapped children, a draft paper indicates that a summit on Ukraine organized by Switzerland seeks to create a road for integrating Russian officials in the next negotiations.

According to a draft paper that Bloomberg reviewed, the June 15–16 conference in Lucerne, Switzerland, would focus on the three measures as a way of building trust so that Moscow could later engage on a limited number of topics.

As per Sky News, a draft paper viewed by Bloomberg indicates that the conference will centre on nuclear safety, food security, and returning abducted children to develop the confidence to eventually engage Russia on a restricted range of subjects.

Meeting organizers for June 15 and 16 have also limited Ukraine’s 10-point blueprint so as many leaders as feasible can attend the summit.

Although Russian officials have been left out of this conference, the organizers stated in the paper that all parties have to be involved in any actions meant to bring about peace.

China has indicated it might not show up for the summit; the degree of involvement by other countries is yet to be known.

The summit focuses mostly on three fundamental ideas:

  • The Black Sea and Sea of Azov must be open to free shipping to guarantee food security rather than weaponize it.
  • Nuclear power plants must be secure, run under Ukrainian supervision, in conformity with International Atomic Energy Agency norms.
  • Ukraine also needs access to third parties for agricultural goods; all hostages of war must be freed, including all “deported and unlawfully displaced” Ukrainian children and citizens.
