US-Iran Military: Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei has emphasized the need for the country’s military to stay in top form, following rare discussions between Iranian and US officials in Oman. In a meeting with high-ranking military commanders on Sunday, Khamenei declared, “The Armed Forces are the country’s shield and a refuge for the nation against any aggressor.” His words underline the importance of a strong defense, especially during times of tension between Iran and the United States.
Khamenei made these remarks as Iran and the US try to ease tensions over Iran’s nuclear program. Still, he warned against “continuing US threats.” US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth said Washington is “fully prepared to act decisively” if Iran advances its program. Israel also warned it would respond with force if needed. Iran maintains its nuclear work is only for peaceful, civilian purposes.

Military Readiness
Khamenei also criticized Western nations for condemning Iran’s military advancements, calling their objections hypocritical. According to NewsWeek, he highlighted the need for both physical and psychological readiness in the face of potential enemies. “Alongside hardware, software readiness is very important to countering hostile efforts,” Khamenei explained, urging the armed forces to remain vigilant, not just on the battlefield but in all aspects of defense, including strategy and logistics.
Khamenei’s call to action was echoed by Major General Mohammad Bagheri, the Chief of Staff of Iran’s Armed Forces. Bagheri stated, “The Armed Forces are fully prepared, with the support of the nation, and will leave the enemies longing for their sinister goals.” His message reaffirmed the military’s readiness to defend the nation against any threat.
US-Iran Military: Diplomatic Talks and What’s Next
The meeting in Oman marked the first time in months that US and Iranian officials had engaged in direct talks. Both sides described the discussions as “constructive,” although no major breakthroughs were announced. The talks focused mainly on Iran’s nuclear activities and its actions in the region. While the tone was cautious, some progress seemed possible as both countries showed a willingness to engage.

US President Donald Trump also weighed in, emphasizing the gravity of the situation. “We’ll be making a decision on Iran very quickly,” he confirmed. While Trump hopes to avoid military action, he made it clear that the US would not ignore the risks at hand. Defense Secretary Hegseth supported this view, stating, “President Trump hopes to never have to resort to a military option, but we are not naïve about the stakes.”
