How India Fits Into Netanyahu’s ‘Hexagon of Alliances’ Vision?

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has proposed an “Iron Alliance” of nations against extremism, placing India at the center of a broader “Hexagon of alliances” linking key countries across regions.

Modi’s Israel Visit

Israel Hexagon of Alliances: Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu recently gave a big speech in the Knesset. In that speech, he shared a new idea about countries working together which is called “Iron Alliance.”

He said this alliance would bring together countries that stand against extremist Islam and violence. He explained that these countries believe in peace and respect. In his exact words, he said the alliance would include nations that “believe in moderation, in progress, in human dignity, in mutual respect.

An alliance of nations that sanctify life and are ready to fight against those who sanctify death and seek to return us to the dark barbarism of the Middle Ages.”

He made it clear that this group would fight against terror and support democratic values. He wants countries that reject violence to stand side by side and protect each other.

During his speech, he also talked about how India and Israel have become much closer in recent years. He said trade between them has doubled and said that cooperation has tripled. He also said understanding has “quadrupled.” Netanyahu described the friendship between the two nations as a “wondrous friendship.” He said this friendship is strong both at the personal level and at the national level.

He sees it as a serious plan for countries to share intelligence, improve defence technology, and support each other in world politics.

The Bigger Plan ‘Hexagon’

Netanyahu did not stop at the Iron Alliance idea. He also spoke about something he called a “Hexagon of alliances.” This plan is bigger. It is about connecting several countries across Asia, Africa, and the Mediterranean region.

He mentioned that the group could include India, Israel, Greece, Cyprus, and some Arab, African, and Asian countries. Netanyahu said these countries would be ones that agree about the dangers in the region. He explained that they would be nations that “see eye-to-eye on the reality, challenges, and goals against the radical axes,” including what he called the “radical Shia axis” and the “emerging radical Sunni axis.”

Curretnly the hexagon idea is still more of a vision than a real thing, there is no official treaty yet.

Why is India is Important in this?

In his speech Netanyahu praised India many times. He called India a “global power.” He also spoke warmly about India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi and called him a “personal friend.”

In the hexagon idea, India would have a central role. This means India would be very important if such an alliance ever becomes real. India and Israel already work closely in defence, technology, farming, trade, and innovation.

But India usually prefers to keep what is called strategic autonomy. India does not easily join formal military groups against other countries.

The timing of this announcement is also important. The Middle East is tense right now because of conflicts and power struggles. There is also a Strategic Mutual Defence Agreement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. Some people call it an “Islamic NATO.” Because of this situation, Netanyahu’s idea can be seen as an effort to create a counter balance in the region.

Reactions around the world have been mixed. Some countries are careful and do not want more division in the region. Pakistan’s Senate even criticized the idea and said it could be destabilising. Other countries have not officially agreed to join the hexagon plan.
