European aerospace leader Airbus announced its plan to establish a cutting-edge communications network for France’s air and naval forces, backed by a contract potentially worth 480 million euros. The collaboration with Naval Group will span up to a decade, ensuring the integration across more than 80 naval vessels by 2032.
Airbus Defence and Space is set to enhance the French naval fleet’s communication capabilities, targeting incremental upgrades, deployment, and maintenance of the system. Eric Even, who spearheads Space Digital operations at Airbus Defence and Space, emphasized the evolving landscape of networked naval combat necessitating robust communications.
As Europe grapples with growing cybersecurity threats, notably from pro-Russian hackers, the project’s focus on resilience is strategic. The fortified network for the Naval Force’s IP (RIFAN) will boast advanced cybersecurity measures to ensure continued operational reliability amidst burgeoning cyber adversities.
