HAL-Yakovlev Deal: Many important deals were seen at Wings India 2026. This is India’s biggest civil aviation event. The event highlights that many global companies are now very interested in India’s fast growing aviation market. India needs more planes because more people are flying every year.
A big step was taken when Russian aircraft maker Yakovlev signed a first level agreement with Hindustan Aeronautics Limited also called HAL. This agreement is an early step and shows both sides want to work together. Alexander Dolotovsky who is the Deputy General Director of Yakovlev spoke about this new partnership. He said, “We have signed a preliminary agreement with our partners at HAL. While I cannot share specific details of the agreement publicly at this stage, we are at the beginning of a significant deal. We 100% believe that HAL is a responsible and reliable partner,”.

Why India is Important for Aviation
Dolotovsky also spoke about why India matters so much to global aircraft companies. He said India is growing very fast and will need many more planes in the future. He added, “We view the Indian aviation sector with great optimism. India is a rapidly growing market that requires significantly more aircraft than are currently in operation. Given that India is one of the world’s most populous countries, passenger numbers are expected to surge in the coming years,”.
When asked about when results will be seen, he explained that things are still private right now. He said, “The information remains confidential and sensitive during these early stages. However, we are confident that our cooperation will be successful and that the first practical results will emerge very soon.” He also spoke about the long friendship between India and Russia. He said, “While the Indian market attracts many global aerospace companies–as evidenced by the high turnout at Wings India–we rely on the deep-rooted history between India and Russia spanning over 60 years. We aim to leverage this partnership to propose a unique deal and a product specifically for this market.”

Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu said India is now doing more than just flying planes. He said, “India is no longer just flying aircraft–we are designing, building and leading global aviation. Indian skies are full of infinite possibilities. From market to maker, India’s aviation ecosystem is taking a global leadership flight. India represents the wings of 1.5 billion aspirations,” during the Wings India Excellence Awards.
