Indian Navy MARCOS Meet US Navy SEALs: During the 8th Joint Special Forces exercise in Goa, which took place from October 23 to November 10, 2023, special marine operations were carried out by Marine Commandos from the Indian Navy and Navy Seals from the United States. The two Naval Special Forces’ level of collaboration increased as a result of the training.

It is known that the two special forces have previously practised together. The seventh edition of drill Sangam, a naval special forces exercise carried out in tandem by the US Navy SEALs and the Indian Navy MARCOS, took place in Goa in December 2022. From its inception in 1994, Exercise Sangam has been a significant military and political undertaking between the two nations. On a range of subjects pertaining to marine special operations, SEAL Team Five from San Diego and Indian Navy MARCOs from the INS Abhimanyu exchanged ideas and firsthand knowledge.

Three weeks were allotted to the exercise. The staff trained and honed their skills in a variety of evolutions during that time, including combat free-fall jumps, direct action missions, maritime interdiction operations, special heliborne operations, and more.

The Sangam series is exclusively between US and Indian Special Forces, but drill Malabar involves a combined exercise involving US SEALs, MARCOs, and other participating nations’ Naval Special Forces.

The 2018 RIMPAC Exercises were brought up in connection with the training of the two special forces. The partner nation forces that took part in the drills included SOF from the Republic of Korea Navy Special Warfare Flotilla (ROK SEALs), Philippine Navy Special Operations Group (NAVSOG), Indonesian Navy Special Forces (KOPASKA), Indian Navy Marine Commando forces (MARCOS), Peruvian Naval Special Forces (FOE), and the Japanese Maritime Self Defence Force Special Boarding Unit.

The MARCOS training curriculum was developed in collaboration with the British SAS, and it is known that some of the training is based on that of the Navy SEALs.
