India DSC A20: The Indian Navy got a big upgrade in its underwater work after getting DSC A20, which is the very first Diving Support Craft from a group of five ships being made in India by Titagarh Rail Systems Ltd in Kolkata. The Navy got the ship on September 16, 2025, and this marks a new step for India in building its own defence ships.
DSC A20 is the first ship of this class and comes after a deal signed on February 12, 2021, between the Ministry of Defence and Titagarh Rail Systems. The Navy will use this craft mainly for diving work in coastal waters. It has modern diving machines and gear that can help with many different kinds of underwater jobs.

Design and power of DSC A20
The craft has a displacement of about 380 tons and it is built in a special catamaran style. Its main role is diving in coastal areas. The ship was made under rules given by the Indian Register of Shipping. Before building, experts at the Naval Science and Technological Laboratory in Visakhapatnam carried out tests and studied the model to make sure the design works well in water, reported Indian Masterminds.
This vessel shows how India is becoming stronger in making its own naval ships. It is a good example of the country’s self-reliance dream and modern engineering skills.
India’s plan and future use
The Navy says the coming of DSC A20 is a big step for the ‘Make in India’ plan in defence. By building such ships at home, India proves it can design, test, and make new naval platforms on its own. After this delivery, four more Diving Support Crafts will join the Navy one by one.
These ships will have many uses. The Navy will use them to take care of underwater structures, to train new divers, to carry out search and rescue work, and also to do small salvage jobs when needed. This means they will stay busy in both routine and emergency tasks.
