Drones In Defence: Drones are changing the way wars are fought by offering low-cost but highly effective solutions, said Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan. He was speaking at a seminar organized by the Centre for Joint Warfare Studies (CENJOWS) on the topic of drone warfare and how to counter drone threats.
According to The Week, General Chauhan explained that drones, also called Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS), are becoming a powerful tool in modern battles. They use speed, advanced robotics, and artificial intelligence (AI) to create a big impact on the battlefield. “Drones are a disruptive force in warfare,” he said.

He also stressed the need for the Indian armed forces to use the same terms and definitions when talking about drones. This will help everyone understand each other better. He talked about the four generations of drones and said India must develop strong systems to counter enemy drones.
The seminar brought together experts from the military, government, and industry to discuss the latest developments in drone technology and how to defend against drone attacks. They talked about India’s need for drones, how AI can be used in drone warfare, and what lessons can be learned from conflicts happening around the world.

The event highlighted India’s growing focus on making its own drones and becoming self-reliant in this field. Experts also discussed the increasing threat of drones along India’s northern and western borders, as well as in the Indian Ocean Region.
Several leading defence companies, including JSW UAV Ltd, Mahindra Defence, Adani Defence Systems, Kepler Aerospace, and Shyam VNL Pvt Ltd, showcased their latest technologies for countering drone threats.
