Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh Inaugurates 64th ISAM Conference in Bengaluru

Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh opened the 64th ISAM conference in Bengaluru, bringing military leaders, scientists and aviation experts together to discuss new ideas in aerospace medicine, flight safety, aircrew health.

64th ISAM Conference: The 64th Annual Conference of the Indian Society of Aerospace Medicine started at the Institute of Aerospace Medicine in the Bengaluru. Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal A.P. Singh opened the event. The conference took place on November 20-21 and brought together many senior military leaders, scientists, aviation experts and doctors from India and other countries.

The theme for the meet was “Innovations in Aerospace Medicine: Infinite Possibilities,” and the organisers wanted everyone to think about the new needs of flight safety, better aircrew performance, medical help for air forces and airlines, and the future of people flying into space.

Air Marshal Sandeep Thareja, who serves as the Director General Medical Services (Air), gave the presidential address.

Events and Memorial Lectures

People from the Armed Forces, Indian Air Force aircrew, civil aviation pilots and scientists from DRDO, HAL and ISRO took part in the conference. One of the major moments of the event was the Air Marshal Subroto Mukerjee Memorial Lecture. Aviation historian Anshit Gupta delivered the talk to honour the first Chief of the Air Staff.

The organisers explained that “The prestigious Air Marshal Subroto Mukherjee Memorial Oration, instituted in honour of the first Indian Chief of the Air Staff, was delivered by Anchit Gupta, an avid historian. Over the years, eminent personalities namely Dr Raja Ramanna, Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, Shri Madhavan Nair, Dr Naresh Trehan, Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma (Retd) and Mr Syed Kirmani, have delivered this prestigious oration.”

Another important session at the conference was the Air Vice Marshal M.M. Srinagesh Memorial Lecture. He is known as the “Father of Aviation Medicine in India.” This year, Air Vice Marshal Deepak Gaur (Retd.) gave the lecture. Past speakers included Awais Ahmed from Pixxel Aerospace and Captain Dhruv Rebbapragada from IndiGo reported The hindu Businessline.

Science new Research

The conference held many science talks that explored training for aircrew, simulation, aerospace physiology, high-altitude problems, fatigue studies, medical innovation and research on microgravity. Teams also shared work about operational aviation medicine and accident investigation. Some case studies gave updates from the Axiom-4 mission and talked about new ideas in hypoxia training and how to check Onboard Oxygen Generating Systems, known as OBOGS.

Officials at the event also released a statement saying, “According to an official statement, the theme of the conference, ‘Innovations in Aerospace Medicine: Infinite Possibilities’, portrayed the innovative approaches by aerospace medicine practitioners in balancing the safety and optimal performance requirements of the aviators.”

They added more details, saying, “Highlights also included insights from Axiom-4 mission, advances in hypoxia training, Onboard Oxygen Generating System (OBOGS) evaluation, fatigue detection, microgravity related research and aircraft accident investigation.”
