Sigma Advanced Systems, Munitions India Join Hands to Make 155mm Artillery Fuzes

Sigma Advanced Systems and Munitions India have signed an MoU to make 155mm course-correction fuzes in India, supporting local production and precision-guided artillery capabilities for future defence

India 155mm Artillery Fuzes

India 155mm Artillery Fuzes: Sigma Advanced Systems Limited has signed an exclusive agreement with Munitions India Limited (MIL) to manufacture advanced artillery technology in India. The agreement was announced on October 14, 2026. Both companies will work together to produce and supply 155mm artillery course-correction fuzes along with their related parts and systems.

The deal is based on an exclusive Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). It covers technology transfer, product testing, local manufacturing and the integration of guidance systems. The companies aim to combine Sigma’s engineering skills with MIL’s existing ammunition factories and production experience.

What are 155mm Artillery Course-Correction Fuzes?

A fuze is a device fitted to ammunition to carry out a particular function. In this project, the companies will focus on course-correction fuzes designed for 155mm artillery shells.

Regular artillery shells follow their flight path after being fired. Course-correction technology allows a shell to make changes to its path while it is in the air. This can help it reach the intended target more accurately.

The technology is meant to improve the performance of artillery ammunition and support more precise military operations. Sigma’s programme will use a Course Correction Guidance Kit that the company says is already used by international customers. The companies haven’t shared specific figures for the system’s accuracy or other performance details.

How Will the Sigma Advanced Systems and Munitions India Deal Help India?

Technology Transfer and Local Manufacturing

Sigma and MIL will work on bringing the required technology into Indian production. The process will cover more than just making the fuze itself. It also includes related components, subsystems and the work needed to connect the guidance system with the ammunition.

Product qualification will also be part of the process. This means the product must undergo checks to confirm that it meets the required technical and operational standards.

Making these systems in India could help build local skills and support companies involved in the defence manufacturing supply chain.

Support for the Indian Armed Forces

The partnership is intended to support important programmes of the Indian Armed Forces. More domestic experience in precision-guided artillery technology could help India develop its own supply and manufacturing capabilities.

Sigma CEO Sunil Kalidindi said, “This initiative reflects our commitment to going beyond localisation towards developing a stronger indigenous defence manufacturing ecosystem,” according to

India has been working to increase domestic production of defence equipment. Making more advanced ammunition technology within the country could reduce the need to depend on foreign suppliers.
