DRDO Jodhpur Solar Project: NTPC Vidyut Vyapar Nigam (NVVN) has  invited companies to take part in a big solar plan in Rajasthan. The work is for a rooftop solar project of 1,000 kW at the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Jodhpur. NVVN asked that all bids should reach them by October 7, 2025, and they will open the bids the next day on October 8. Anyone who wants to take part has to put down a bid security money of ₹500,000, which is around $5,696.04, reported Mercom India.

This project is not only about putting solar panels on the roof, but the company that wins will have to handle everything from start to finish. They need to design, do the engineering, bring the supply, build the civil works, set up, test, and make the system ready for use.

They also must look after it for the next 10 years with proper operation and maintenance. The chosen group will first have to check the roofs, water and power setups, and also security at the site. Then they have to find what is the best capacity to put up the solar project and how to keep it running well.

Work and setups needed

The company that wins the bid has to link the project with the existing power mains, ACDB, or feeder pillars. They also need to connect it with the license network or electrical loads. For that, they will take approvals from the distribution licensee or the Chief Electrical Inspector to Government.

A remote monitoring system must be installed and internet services will also be part of the job. The contractor will have to pay for the internet charges and provide all other accessories needed for smooth work during the full contract.

Another important part of the work is giving access to the rooftop. If any building roof with solar panels does not have access, then the company must build a permanent mild-steel staircase or ladder. It should be one meter wide and painted with primer and weather-resistant enamel paint. There also must be a system for cleaning the solar modules with water. The company has to arrange water supply from the nearest water line and fit CPVC pipes, pumps, meters, and taps. They also need to give one portable water pressure cleaner for any emergency.

The bidders must also take joint monthly readings of the meters with NVVN at no extra cost. They will also make sure that all the approvals for net metering, net billing, group net metering, virtual net metering or even behind-the-meter setups are ready. Insurance policies for the project and proper guarantees are also required. Workers will also get safety with lifelines, walkways and fall arrestors while installing.

Who can Apply?

NVVN said that only Class-I and Class-II local suppliers can take part in this tender. Class-I suppliers must give at least 50% local content in the project, while Class-II suppliers must give minimum 20%. This ensures that local material and local work gets a share.

Earlier this year in July, NVVN also came out with another tender for empaneling EPC contractors. That one was for both rooftop and ground solar projects and could go up to 20 MW per vendor.
