Women in Indian Defence: Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth said today that women officers like Colonel Sofia Qureshi and Wing Commander Vyomika Singh are the real brand ambassadors of Viksit Bharat. He told the crowd that women are playing a big part in taking India towards becoming a developed nation by 2047. He was speaking at the 100th Raising Day function of the Military Nursing Service in Delhi.
The Minister also reminded everyone that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his latest Mann Ki Baat talk, had praised Lieutenant Commanders Dilna K and Rupa A, reported News on air. These two women finished an eight-month sea journey as part of the Navika Sagar Parikrama II mission. Seth said that Swami Vivekananda once taught that no nation can progress without empowering women, and that this holds true for India too.

He also pointed out how strong India’s military is becoming. While speaking, he talked about Operation Sindoor, where India used its own home-made defence systems. He said proudly that India has even gone past Japan this year to become the world’s fourth biggest economy.
Seth praised the Military Nursing Service as well. He said the nurses always stand ready to look after soldiers and their families. To honor the century of their service, he released a special stamp, a postcard, and a diary made just for the occasion.
Along with this event Delhi also hosted the MILMEDICON-2025 conference, which the Minister opened. The meet focused on mental and physical trauma in the forces, new partnerships in defence health, and latest innovations in military medicine. The event also marked 100 years of women power in military medical service.

The Minister also made it clear that women are at the heart of India’s defence and development story. From nurses in uniforms to officers flying jets and sailing ships, women are now leading from the front in defence and other secotors, showing their capabilites. He said they will be the ones showing the way to a stronger and self-reliant India in the future.
