US Humvee Sale to Lebanon

US Humvee Sale to Lebanon: The US State Department has approved a possible foreign military sale to Lebanon for M1151A1 Humvees and related equipment. The total value of this deal stands at about $34.5 million. The sale will support the Lebanese Armed Forces and help them improve mobility and security across the country.

This package adds 90 more Humvees to an earlier order. Lebanon had already received approval for 50 vehicles before. With this new approval, the total number of Humvees will rise to 140. The first deal was worth $12.26 million. Out of that amount, the main defence equipment value reached $10.85 million. The new sale builds on that earlier support and expands Lebanon’s ground vehicle fleet.

What does the Deal includes?

Along with the Humvees, the deal includes important communication and support systems. Lebanon will receive the RF-7850M-HH multiband handheld radio and a GPS receiver. The package also covers the Quicklook electronic counter-countermeasures waveform. Spare parts and repair parts will come with the vehicles. The deal also includes logistics support and program help to keep the vehicles running properly.

AM General will act as the main contractor for this sale. The agreement also opens the door for more joint tactical and operational training between US forces and Lebanese forces. This training will help both sides work better together during missions and emergencies.

Humvee: Features

The M1151A1 Humvee comes with an expanded chassis and a stronger engine. It can carry more weight than older versions. The vehicle can also support heavier armor kits and weapons. Many countries already use this model, including Iraq and Afghanistan.

According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, these light and highly mobile Humvees will help the Lebanese Armed Forces respond quickly to threats along borders and in sensitive areas. The vehicles will also support counter-terrorism missions where speed and flexibility mattter.

Earlier this month, Washington approved another major vehicle deal for Lebanon. The US cleared a possible $90.5-million sale of M1085A2 and M1078A2 medium tactical vehicles to Beirut. These larger and heavier trucks will help Lebanese forces move troops and equipment across rough ground. They will also improve mobility and support fast responses to perimeter threats, counter-terrorism operations, and joint training with US forces.
