Thales AI-Powered Sonar 76Nano: Thales has introduced a new and very smart sonar system made for modern naval fights under the sea. The system is called Sonar 76Nano. It uses artificial intelligence to help navies see and understand what is happening underwater. Thales built this system to work on many platforms. These include unmanned vehicles, sensors placed on the seabed, and ships with crews.
Thales developed Sonar 76Nano in just 10 months. Engineers took the trusted power of the company’s famous Sonar 2076 and packed it into a much smaller and flexible system. The new sonar keeps strong sound detection but fits into modern fast moving naval needs. During testing, engineers checked how well it worked in real sea conditions.

Built for Modern and Networked Navies
Sonar 76Nano works as a fully digital system from the start. It easily connects with UK and NATO defense networks. This allows ships, drones, and underwater systems to share data in real time. Crewed and uncrewed platforms can work together without problems.
The new sonar allows smaller ships and unmanned systems to use abilities that once only large and costly ships had. Navies no longer have need to depend on a few big vessels for protection. Instead, they can spread sonar systems across many assets. This creates a layered defense where many systems watch the sea together. Thales designed the system to support the UK Royal Navy’s Atlantic Bastion plan. This vision focuses on strong and connected protection across the North Atlantic and other key areas.
Public Debut
Sonar 76Nano will appear in public for the first time on December 17. Thales will show the system during a Royal Navy demonstration. Navy staff and defense experts will get a close look at the working prototype. The demo will also show how focused defense programs can move fast and bring new ideas to life. It highlights support for secure supply chains, skilled UK jobs, and future exports.
