Lockheed Martin and HIMARS: Additional High Mobility Artillery Rocket Systems (HIMARS) for the US Army have been contracted to Lockheed Martin.

The US Department of Defense (DoD) announced that the deal might be worth $861.3 million.

Spare components as well as related support services like training, maintenance, and shipping are covered.

How many HIMARS are being ordered was not stated in the DoD contract release, but earlier request materials indicate the service wants up to 288 launchers. By May 2026, contractual work should be complete.

As per The Defense Post, the HIMARS can launch all members of the multiple-launch rocket system (MLRS) family of munitions, including the extended-range variant. The US Army’s attempts to replenish its HIMARS stockpiles deployed to Ukraine include the almost $1 billion contract award.

A Forbes story states that as of January, Washington had given the war-torn country 39 HIMARS in total.

Since the Ukrainian military started using HIMARS launchers, the Russians have supposedly yet to destroy a single one.

When Kyiv destroyed 50 Russian ammunition stores in a single month in July 2022, it announced a significant breakthrough for the American system.
